Spring is here, and Memorial Day is just around the corner. What does Memorial Day mean to you? For a lot of people, it means burgers, hot dogs, potato salad and maybe even the time to open the pool or go to the beach. But for veterans and their families, Memorial Day is the day to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and given their lives.
We want to help you remember the importance of this day and other days like it, and to move them from days where we take our warm water for granted, to a day we appreciate those who made that shower possible for us. That’s why we have given you a couple of suggestions on ways that you can make this Memorial Day a day that honors those in the military.
History on Decoration Day / Memorial Day
One of the best ways that you can say thank you to the men and women in the military is through flying your American Flag. This can be done throughout the year, obviously, but doing it on Memorial Day, which used to be Decoration Day, is one of the best ideas.
Decoration Day got its name because many families in post Civil War America would “decorate” the tombstones of the fallen soldiers. Not only was it a healing process for their, but also it was a way to honor the fallen.
Today Decoration Day is Memorial Day, but it’s still an opportunity to decorate your home, and even spend some time in a local military cemetery, honoring those who’ve fallen in battle.
Volunteer for Flag Duty in Honor of Armed Forces Day
One of the best ways that you can honor those who have served is by offering to place flags on the graves of those who have gone and given their lives for the country.
This is a great way that you can show your appreciation and do something for the community. A lot of veterans who have passed on are forgotten, especially those who are older.
So this will show your appreciation for what they did.
Join Us as We Thank Our Clients in the Military
At Green Hills Plumbing, one thing that you want to do is make sure that we show our appreciation to those in the military. That’s why we have included this blog showing you how you can show appreciation on your own. We aren’t just a company who provides you with plumbing services.
We are proud of our country and we are thankful to those who have served and who have fought for the rights that we have today. The next time you take a nice hot shower or wear a nice clean shirt, remember those who are in the military and who are always fighting for the freedoms that many people will take for granted.
Just imagine what people in other countries go through without the freedoms that we have – freedoms of religion, speech, the press and many more. Our military is what helped and continues to help to make our country great. So take a moment and thank a veteran for their service. They will appreciate the gesture and you’ll feel good about doing it.
